Mary Jane
Interior Stylist | Designer | Artist
As a child, my first styling project was confined within the walls of a beloved doll house. Before long, I had progressed to real-life rooms in our mid-century ranch on Long Island, and I was hooked! It became clear that I must pursue my true passion, as I was born to create. Hungry for knowledge and expertise, I enrolled in Interior Design classes at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Art and Design and The New School. Working part-time in an art gallery, I took up the crafts of decorative painting, furniture refinishing, and calligraphy while formally studying drawing and painting at the Art Students League of New York.
During this time of explosive creative exploration, I had the incredible opportunity to work for the doyenne of domestic bliss-- Martha Stewart. Operating alongside an amazing coterie of makers, designers, collectors, gardeners and stylists inspired me to take on an even bigger project: the gut renovation of a 1884 Montclair NJ colonial. I cut my teeth on what became a crash course on demolition, space planning, design, renovation and project management. Relocating to LA brought new skills to the fore-- those of decluttering, organizing and staging. When I began styling homes professionally, I found my true calling.
I continue to study and grow as a visual artist, finding the practice both nourishing to my soul and reinforcing my abilities as a stylist. I am at my core, a creative problem solver-- simplifying, elevating and enhancing living spaces by applying basic principles of design, composition, and color.
I approach each and every project with the goal of creating balance and harmony to produce spaces that are streamlined, functional and modern. My happiness and creativity are always energized in these types of environments and I strive to provide the same for my clients.
